In the opening chapters of Genesis – the first book of the Bible – God creates Earth and all life in it. We are told that ‘God saw all that He had made, and it was very good’ (Genesis 1:31). The natural world is thus God’s good creation – to tend nature is one of the ways we encounter and show love for God.
The call to care for nature is particularly important as we face climate breakdown caused by greed and a callous attitude to creation. Increasingly, climate change is causing drought, famine, and catastrophic weather events that harm our fellow human beings. To love nature by working toward sustainability is also, therefore, to love our neighbours.
There are plenty of chances to love creation at Church on the Corner!
Gardening Group
Church on the Corner owns a plot in the beautiful Culpeper Community Garden, a two minute walk from our church building. Every week, members of Church on the Corner come together with people from the wider community to tend our flowers and vegetables, and to socialise.

Repair Cafe
In partnership with Islington Climate Centre, we host an occasional ‘repair cafe’ at Church on the Corner – a fun and social way of exploring more sustainable living!

Outdoor Events
Throughout the year, Church on the Corner’s various groups make use of Culpeper Garden and Barnsbury Wood Nature Reserve for events. We have even held worship outdoors – encountering God among the beauty of His creation!

Eco Church
Church on the Corner achieved a Bronze Eco Church award in 2024.
We are working toward our Silver Award – a sign of our commitment to sustainability at a time of climate crisis.
