Church on the Corner

Church on the Corner is an Anglican church in an old pub in Islington, London

Acts 2:44
All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as they had need.

I have been really convicted about the whole generosity thing in the last few weeks – not just with money, but with time & love. It is costly, and draining, but it is closer to the heart of the character of God than I can know.
Thank you to all of you who responded so generously to the need of a member of our church. It is not nessecarily wise or good stewardship, but by the grace of God it is one of the thing he will use to start to bring change into a long term crisis.

Please be generous with your prayers too.

    Day 24 – Friday 4th March

Another one of those hectic weeks but I suppose that has two benefits. One, you get less of my rantings on the blogger and, two, work pays for my meals so things get to be very cheap. Out of the last 5 days work has kindly paid for 4 of my meals. 2 for pleasure and 2 not quite so fun.

The upshot is that my poor mother doesn’t have to suffer because of this Lent challenge. Come Sunday she should be celebrating that expensive card industry invention know as Mothers Day in the usual manner. I agree with what Garmon said earlier about the gift meaning more if it actually costs you something. Thankfully I did manage to resist to urge to put “I hope you realise I sacrificed a night out on the beers for this!” on the card. Not quite the sentiment I was going for.

And, alas, it’s game over for me as well, at least for a short while. As off tomorrow I’m off the French Alps for a week’s skiing in the 3 Valleys. Now I could pretend to live off £50 (or 70 odd Euros) while I’m out there but somehow it doesn’t seem quite right talking about minimum wage as I glide down the mountains in my labelled ski-gear along with all the other middle class types. (Besides that amount would barely cover my lift pass) So for the next 7 days I’ll leave the stage to the rest of you Lenters and wish you well on your travails.

Normal service will be resumed shortly. DV.
