Associate Minister Job Description

The parish of Barnsbury wishes to appoint an Associate Minister with responsibility for the Church on the Corner to grow and develop a sustainable congregation through new ministries that serve the local community. We have an ambition to grow from 15 to at least 50 regular worshippers in 3 years, start a new congregation, diversify our mission reach and support for the wider parish. COTC is a warm, welcoming church that loves the word of God and our local community; we offer a forward-thinking minister the opportunity to renew and grow the church after pastoral and pandemic challenges in recent years.

The role will be Associate Minister of COTC (with some wider parish responsibilities), working with and under the oversight of Caroline Titley the Priest-in-Charge of the Parish of Barnsbury. We anticipate it will include:

  • Starting outward-facing ministries and outreach events
  • Teaching and pastoral care
  • Connecting with local organisations

We are seeking a candidate who is:

  • An ordained minister who has been in holy orders for at least three years and has completed their title post
  • An initiator – can perceive community needs and launch new ministries
  • Community-hearted – we are a church for our community not just our congregation
  • A team player who relishes working with others – we work closely with St Andrew’s, under the oversight of the Priest-in-Charge and joint PCC
  • An enthusiast for mission who is experienced in leading people to faith in Jesus
  • Supportive of the Diocese of London’s 2030 Vision and ready to take an active role in the Islington deanery
  • Enjoys teaching and nurturing disciples – we enjoy wrestling with scripture
  • Generous and joyful about stewardship in a way that deepens discipleship and grows resources for mission

We offer:

  • A unique church building on a busy local crossroads in the heart of Islington – a church building without the traditional church building baggage
  • An energetic and committed congregation – although we are currently few in number we have a heart for our community and a desire to share God’s love with those in need
  • A wider parish team and council who are engaged and passionate about serving the area well – we have strong and growing links with St Andrew’s and are seeking to work closely with them to meet the needs of our parish
  • The exciting opportunity to lead a new chapter of growth in our church and outreach to our parish

The Diocese of London is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents our context and wider community. We are aware that those of Global Majority Heritage/United Kingdom Minority Ethnic (GMH/UKME), women, and disabled people are currently under-represented among our clergy and workforce, and we particularly encourage applications from those with the relevant skills and experience that will increase this representation.
